The Atlantic Bass Academy is committed to providing high-quality instruction for bassists at all levels through high-quality digital lessons, private lesson subscriptions, group lessons, studio recitals, mock auditions, and studio classes.
Our mission is not only to make our student better musicians, but to teach them the skills they need for a fruitful and sustainable professional life, whether as professional orchestral musicians, freelancers, or even as hobbyists looking to improve their skills.
We are committed to improving the music community of the low end, both locally in our home state of Rhode Island, and globally through a robust digital education system.
Outreach
In addition to our commitment to education, the Atlantic Bass Academy is committed to making the world around us a better place through music, by partnering with local non-profits, board-certified music therapists, and direct care facilities to provide educational outreach services, instrumental introductions, and sensory friendly concerts.
Our goal is not just to teach, but to reach the world around us to make it a little bit deeper.
About the founder
Joseph Bentley is a committed performer and educator who has experience in many of the most prestigious orchestras in his region, including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Boston Festival Orchestra, Creare Symphonia at Gloriae Dei Artes, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Symphony New Hampshire, Cape Symphony, Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, and New Bedford Symphony orchestras.
As a soloist Joseph has recorded Eliane Aberdam’s Otohime bass concerto, and has appeared with numerous orchestras throughout New England.
Educator
Joseph is the artist/teacher of classical bass at the University of Rhode Island, the #1 public university in New England. He has over a decade and a half of university level teaching experience, and has taught at King’s College London, Wheaton College, Johnson & Wales University, and the prestigious Portsmouth Abbey School.
NonClassical
Once called “a bass playing terror” by Boston Stages Magazine, Joseph’s foundations and training as a classical musician have taught him the discipline, attention to detail, and workflow needed to manage a career beyond the bass section. He has played bass with the Big Apple Circus, in many theatre orchestras throughout New England, and has also enjoyed a career as an actor/musician on stages around the United States.
